With a design inspired by the Sunshine Coast’s mountains, stunning ocean and surf, local artist Shar Feil-Moorman has been selected to create the celebratory 10th anniversary Sunshine Coast Australia Day Awards trophies.
The unique trophies will be presented to the Australia Day Award recipients in recognition of their achievements and outstanding contribution to the community.
Shar is an internationally recognised glass artist with numerous installations in private residences, commercial buildings and public art displays.
Shar said she was honoured to have been chosen to design what will not only be a trophy, but a work of art for the Australia Day Award recipients.
“I’m so proud to have been chosen to create the trophies that will recognise the amazing people and give thanks for the incredible work they do in our community,” she said.
“Designing and engineering the art forms is quite a magical process.
“I’m grateful to be given the opportunity to translate the beauty of the region and community into a sculptural trophy.
“The glass will be moulded with images that depict strength and community – the stars of the Southern Cross, mountain ranges, silhouettes of people, She Oak needles, beach and waves.
“The region’s diversity will be represented by a subtle spectrum of colour, varying quality of transparent, opaque and reflective glass, moulded and painted.
“Numerous techniques are used to translate each element of the design and its essence.
“The sculptural forms themselves bring all the imagery elements together in relationships and harmony with each other.”
The 2018 Sunshine Coast Australia Day Awards will be presented at a special invitation-only ceremony to be held on Tuesday, January 23.
