Every resident, business owner and community group in Landsborough is invited to share their vision for the town’s future with council, as council’s Landsborough Place Making project gets underway.

It’s a one-in-20-year opportunity for each individual to help define their town’s future.

Council’s first round of community engagement will start next week, with the entire Landsborough community invited to have its say at visioning events on Saturday, February 3 and Sunday, February 4.

Division 1 Councillor Rick Baberowski said this was a most exciting opportunity for people to help shape and define the direction of this great country town.

“Everyone is invited to have their say and I encourage each person to nudge their family members and neighbours to come along to these events – if you ever thought ‘I reckon they should do this’ or ‘I would love to see that done to the town’, now is your chance,” Cr Baberowski said.

“We’ve been waiting our turn but here it is – this is our best opportunity to share experience and start a great conversation between council and the community, and for people to help shape the way the town looks and functions, particularly in the public spaces and future council investment in infrastructure.

“We know people in Landsborough, like all the communities in our region, are witnessing rapid change around them and will have strong and wide ranging opinions on the future of their town and that’s why it’s important we hear from them.

“Place making is a process council uses that’s designed to enable the community to discuss ideas, provide input, exchange experience and most essentially guide the development of a vision and future plan for Landsborough.

“The feedback from the community will help to establish an essential shared vision and master plan for the town which reflects the values and voice of the community.”

To have your say on the Landsborough Place Making project during the first phase of engagement, drop into these events:

  • ‘Meet You at the Markets’ event on Saturday, February 3, 8am-12pm - Landsborough School of Arts
  • Town ‘Visioning Day’ on Sunday, February 4, 10am-2pm - Cribb Street park (opp. old bank building)

If you can’t attend these events you can still have your say via a short online survey.

You can also share images that represent your vision, or photos from the engagement events, on social media using #LoveLandsborough.

A second phase of community engagement will be held later this year to seek feedback on a draft master plan.

This place making project follows previous projects in Mooloolaba, Palmwoods and Beerwah over recent years.

Council has previously received multiple awards for its place making approach and the way in which it engages with the community to deliver quality plans and infrastructure for the region.

These include a _Towards Best Practice Award_ from the Place Leaders Association (PLA) and an _Award of Excellence for Planning in Landscape Architecture_ from the Australian Institute of Landscape Architect (AILA), for its PLACE+ Beerwah initiative.
