The late afternoon service, organised especially for this annual event, will utilise the 632 trial bus route, which connects the Coast and Hinterland.
Kari Porter, TravelSmart Project Officer said that the extra service is necessary.
"The late service we've added departs Pomona at 4.45 pm just after the presentations have finished, meaning people won't have to wait until the normally scheduled 6.30 pm bus arrives,” Ms Porter said.
“We know that to encourage bus travel, it needs to be regular, reliable and cost effective.
“We’re delighted to partner the King of the Mountain event, showing that bus travel can be the easier solution.
“Hopefully, the extra service, cheap travel and no parking hassles should make the bus a great option for the event.”
Travelling to the event on the 632 bus from Noosa Heads to Pomona costs just $2.90 for adults and $1.50 for children/concession.
Buses depart Noosa Heads for Pomona (via Noosa Civic, Tewantin and Cooroy) at 7:40am, 12:15pm and 5:20pm and return from Pomona at 8:50am, 1:25pm, 4:45pm and 6:30pm. Full scheduling details are available at: www.travelsmartnoosa.com.au.
As an added incentive, anyone who shows their bus ticket to the TravelSmart Sunshine Coast team at the King of the Mountain will receive a TravelSmart surprise.
The 632 service came on board in March 2008 as a six month trial in partnership with TransLink, and has recently been extended until December 2009. The service opens up a whole new world for young people who previously had no independent access to travel outside the Hinterland.
Those travelling to the event by car are encouraged to share the trip with others to reduce the impact of solo travel.
