4000 Miles – a funny and warm-hearted play to take Coolum by storm

Amy Herzog’s multi award-winning play, 4000 Miles, will have the Coast’s attention when it takes to the stage at 7.30pm on Saturday, April 23 at council’s Coolum Civic Centre.

From one of America’s brightest playrights, this compassionate and unsentimental play explores the funny, frustrating, and ultimately life-changing relationship between a grandson learning to face his life, and a grandmother who is starting to forget hers.

As the story goes, 21-year-old Leo rocks up unannounced at the Manhattan apartment of his 91-year-old Jewish grandmother Vera.

Having broken up with his girlfriend and cycled across the country, he needs a place to crash for the night, no questions asked. But Vera – prickly, stubborn and sharp as a tack – isn’t about to let him off that easily.

The generation gap of 70 years provides startling humour and a delicate insight ‒ searching youth and habitual old age in a beautiful and touching contrast.

4000 Miles goes the distance to accurately portray the differences between grandparents and grandchildren in their quest to relate.

The Coolum Civic Centre is located on Park Street, off David Low Way, next to Jack Morgan Park, within walking distance to the beach and plenty of car park spaces.

This is a licensed event. The seating is set up as general admission theatre style so please arrive early to find a seat that suits you best.

The audience capacity of this show has been limited to ensure that all audience members have a quality experience and enjoy the show.

There is no on-site box office at Coolum Civic Centre prior to the event, however you will be able to collect tickets from the venue from 6pm on the night of the show.
