Arts, Heritage and Transport Portfolio Councillor Rick Baberowski said the 50th Anniversary of the naming of the Sunshine Coast was a great opportunity for the community to celebrate its unique heritage.
“There is no doubt this is a special occasion and it is only fitting the community have an opportunity to have their favourite photos of Sunshine Coast lifestyles and landscapes from the 60s and 70s included in the 2017 heritage calendar,” Cr Baberowski said.
“The Heritage Levy funded calendar is produced annually as a way to celebrate and remember this region’s heritage.
“Last year’s edition of the calendar was a sell-out with its 12 months of historical and contemporary photographs of the SS Dicky wreck at Dicky Beach, Caloundra.
“This year the calendar will focus on the region that was during those first few years when it was officially named the Sunshine Coast.
“We would love to see photos of the cars, parades and festivals, people and families, holidays, houses and streetscapes.
“This calendar will showcase the Sunshine Coast during this vibrant period of time.”
Winning entries will be included in the 2017 heritage calendar. The winners will be acknowledged in the calendar and will receive a canvas of their winning entry, five copies of the 2017 calendar, and an invitation to the calendar launch.
“This will definitely be a precious keepsake capturing this important milestone in the region’s history,” Cr Baberowski said.
“And I encourage the community to be a part of it.”
Applications opened Monday, August 1 with entries to be received by 5pm, Monday, August 22.
