Celebrating diversity fosters unity, deepens understanding, and creates an inclusive society where everyone feels valued. By engaging in multicultural events and activities, we take an active role in embracing and promoting diversity.

Join the Sunshine Coast Multicultural Network

The Sunshine Coast Multicultural Network is a community-driven initiative that connects individuals and groups passionate about cultural diversity. Members collaborate on projects, events, and awareness campaigns that celebrate and empower diverse communities.

Cultural events and celebrations

Discover cultural diversity through conversation, food, music, and art at local multicultural festivals and events.

Harmony Week (March) is a celebration of inclusivity, respect, and a sense of belonging for everyone, regardless of cultural background.

International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (March 21) is a day to reflect on and take action against racial discrimination worldwide.

National Reconciliation Week (May–June) encouraging all Australians to contribute to reconciliation efforts and build meaningful relationships with First Nations communities.

NAIDOC Week (July) honouring the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Music and storytelling are powerful ways to connect with different cultures. Expand your perspective by exploring global content:

World music digital radio - tune in to stations that highlight music from different cultures and regions.

SBS OnDemand and ABC iview - search for documentaries, movies, and programs focusing on multicultural stories and experiences.

Beamafilm  - get free access to quality, culturally rich documentaries and films using your library card.

Amnesty International have a comprehensive list of resources for you to read, listen, watch and follow online.

SBS Cultural Atlas - provides a comprehensive guide to the cultural backgrounds of Australia’s diverse migrant populations.

SBS Australian Census Explorer - allows you to discover the cultural demographics of your local area and better understand the diversity around you.

Championing diversity in your community

Everyone has a role to play in fostering an inclusive society. Here’s how you can actively celebrate diversity:

Support multicultural businesses and shop at local businesses owned by culturally diverse entrepreneurs.

Engage with multicultural art and literature visit exhibitions, read books, and watch performances that showcase different cultures.

Volunteer for cultural events and offer your time and skills to help organise and support multicultural festivals and activities.

Host a cultural exchange event where you can share traditional foods, music, and stories with friends, colleagues, or your community.

By participating in these initiatives, you contribute to a more inclusive and enriched community.
