Sunshine Coast - A major event destination

Find out why the Sunshine Coast is the destination of choice for holding your major event

Sunshine Coast - A major event destination

The Sunshine Coast is one of the leading major event and tourism destinations in Australia.

In recent times the region has played host to several major events and competitions:

  • Australian Surf Life Saving Championships ('The Aussies') 2016, 2021, 2024
  • Buskers by the Lake 2021
  • Ironman 70.3 Sunshine Coast (annual event)
  • Mooloolaba Triathlon (annual event)
  • 2021 NRL qualifying final. Melbourne Storm v Manly Warringah Sea Eagles
  • Queensland Garden Expo (annual event)
  • Women's State of Origin 2020, 2021

There are many reasons why the region has established a reputation as a destination of choice to host major events.

The region has natural and man-made assets for event organisers to choose from. There are venues and facilities suitable from grass roots to international competition in over 60 different sports. All types of major events are well accommodated, either along the beaches, roads or pathways, or at stadiums, public venues and parklands.

Our region is easily accessible with its own international airport linking to 55 Australian cities as well as New Zealand. More than four million people reside within a 2-hour drive to the Sunshine Coast. It's a one-hour drive from Brisbane, plus train and bus options.

The region is a desirable visitor destination which drives attendance for major events. Participants choosing event options from a crowded national calendar are drawn to the region’s attractions and climate. Not just for their chosen event activity, but also for the vacation and relaxation options available during their stay.

We have one of the most enviable climates in Australia with an average of seven hours of sunshine 300 days per year and an average temperature of 25.5 degrees (72.5 Fahrenheit). For a detailed overview of the region as a destination go to the Visit Sunshine Coast website.
