Unveiled to the community on the 22 September 2025, Library+ modern, is a purpose-built facility designed to be more than a library. It’s a modern, dynamic hub with something for everyone – creative spaces, digital studios, places for kids to learn and play, flexible venue spaces and new ways for our community to collaborate and connect.

Library+ Caloundra at a glance

  • Ground floor: open foyer and event space with tiered seating, kids’ library, outdoor activity space and covered deck, young adult area, quiet reading space and magazine area, kiosk and customer service centre
  • Level 1: a foyer exhibition space, library collections, local history and special collections, collaboration workspace and meeting rooms
  • Level 2: open foyer and event space, large flexible community meeting and venue spaces and Council administration offices.

Take a 3D virtual tour of Library+ Caloundra to see how the modern facility will look once the transformation is complete. The 3D tour is an artist’s impression of the facility with indicative furnishings and finishes.

Behind the design process

Designed by Wilson Architects with sustainability at the heart of its approach, the new state‑of‑the‑art district library and community spaces feature elements that reduce environmental impact and embrace the Sunshine Coast climate.

Library+ Caloundra offers a distinctly Queensland indoor–outdoor experience, with welcoming spaces for all ages and users.

The design pays tribute to the building’s iconic butterfly roofline and soaring ceilings, while responding to its unique location beside the green spaces of Bill Venardos Park and Felicity Park in Caloundra.

The facility gently draws people in from the street into a shaded, outdoor extension of the building. Stepping into the foyer reveals a striking two‑storey void that visually connects the first two levels. Inside, the space provides opportunities for all residents to explore new technologies, spark curiosity and discover something new.

Commitment to sustainability

The facility sets a new benchmark for sustainability with a 6-Star Green Star rating.

Energy-efficient systems, solar panels and water-saving features are integrated into the building, along with battery storage capable of supporting the building’s energy needs and feeding excess power back into the grid.

During construction, more than 90 per cent of demolition materials were recycled or repurposed, and even previously used furniture was diverted from landfill and given a second life through reuse platforms.
