Due to the impacts of COVID-19, the Sunshine Coast Telstra Innovation Awards have been temporarily postponed until further notice. Council will continue to liaise with schools to find an appropriate date for the rescheduling of this important program when it is safe and practical to do so.
Sunshine Coast Council, Telstra and SCRIPT would like to acknowledge and thank the teachers, principals and support staff for their dedication and effort to supporting students during this crisis and we look forward to working with them when the time is right. Adversity breeds creativity and innovation and we know the students participating in the Sunshine Coast Telstra Innovation Awards will use this experience to create positive outcomes in the future. Below is information on what to expect when the Awards are up and running again.
Sunshine Coast Council and Telstra partner for the Sunshine Coast Telstra Innovation Awards. There are over $10,000 in prizes available, including the opportunity to be mentored by entrepreneurs and industry experts.
The Awards aim to encourage young people to use problem-solving and creativity to find solutions that benefit a wide audience.The initiative is a fantastic opportunity for students in years ten to twelve to showcase their ideas. The program also equips teams with experience and advice on how to commercialize ideas through:
- lean principles in product development
- finding product market fit through design thinking.
The competition helps bring creative ideas to life by connecting students with industry mentors to develop entrepreneurial thinking.

*The individual or team who are First Place winners or recipients of the Emerging Entrepreneur Award are able to access up to 6-hours of team mentoring as part of their prize package. Mentors will be selected and matched to the students/teams based on the need of their idea or project produced during the Sunshine Coast Telstra Innovation Awards. Sunshine Coast Council reserves the right to select local mentors based on their skills and availability.
