The Principles and Guidelines for the Installation or Modification of Traffic Signals is intended for developers, electrical contractors and council staff to reference when installing new traffic signals, or modifying existing traffic signals, within the Sunshine Coast Council (SCC) road network.
The guide details the principles to be considered when installing or modifying traffic signals and documents the processes to be followed when commissioning new traffic signals.
It is intended that the guide be considered in conjunction with appropriate Queensland and Australian Standards and does not take precedent over the appropriate standard unless specifically stated in the guide.
The guide was established to:
- formalise the traffic signal installation or modification process
- ensure public safety and amenity is maintained and appropriate standards are adhered
- assist those involved in the delivery of traffic signal assets.
Application to energise traffic signals
An application form to energise traffic signals is required to be signed off by an authorised council officer before traffic signals are permitted to be energised.
Return the completed application form to council within seven days of contract award to email@example.com marked attention of Traffic and Transportation Unit.
Traffic signals are considered 'official traffic signs' and commissioning of traffic signals without approval from council’s delegated officers is an offence under the Transport Operations Road Use Management Act 1995.
