Hollywood on the Sunshine Coast? Well, not quite, but welcome to the next generation of movie makers, who will be showcased as part of next week’s highly anticipated SCRUFFFY launch.
For your chance to check out some of the best young film makers from around the coast, and across the nation, then don’t miss a second of the third annual Sunshine Coast Regional Underground Film Festival for Young People.
Kicking off with the launch event next Saturday from 6.30pm, the week long festival of films, forums and workshops has quickly evolved into one of the nation’s best regarded youth film festivals.
The unique concept behind SCRUFFFY is that it is run by young people, providing valuable opportunities to gain valuable event management skills and work with experienced staff to produce an event that has appeal not only to a youth market, but broader community appeal.
Check out the SCRUFFFY showcase screenings throughout the week and nominate your favourite flick for the People’s Choice Award. Cheer them home at the closing ceremony on Saturday 5 July where the winners across four categories will be revealed, as well as the overall $2000 Best in Festival.
Other program highlights include the Film Fluff Trivia Night on Tuesday 1 July, the ‘mash it up’ all ages event on Wednesday 2 July, and a Johnny Depp movie marathon on Thursday 3 July.
Check out the full program at www.scrufffy.com for all the details, including forums with renowned filmmaker Greg Punch and last year’s competition winner, Raoul Winter.
