Vibrant Indigenous artworks now on display
In celebration of National Reconciliation Week (May 27 – June 3) and upcoming NAIDOC Week events in July, council has installed a vibrant and significant display of artwork by local Indigenous artists in all eight libraries across the region.

In celebration of National Reconciliation Week (May 27 – June 3) and upcoming NAIDOC Week events in July, council has installed a vibrant and significant display of artwork by local Indigenous artists in all eight libraries across the region.
The Sunshine Coast Art Collection works, including new acquisitions made possible through council’s Reconciliation Action Plan, will be on display until late 2018.
Arts and Heritage Portfolio Councillor Rick Baberowski said the new acquisitions and commissions were a significant step forward in representing local First Nations artists in our region’s collection.
“While the Sunshine Coast Art Collection holds a number of significant artworks by Indigenous artists, these new additions will make it more representative of local artists,” Cr Baberowski said.
“Exhibiting these artworks in our local libraries this week during National Reconciliation Week, and later in the year during NAIDOC Week, provides opportunities for the community to view these latest acquisitions and gain insights into the issues and techniques displayed by these talented local Kabi Kabi and Jinibara artists.
“The exhibits also align with the theme of this year’s National Reconciliation Week Don’t keep history a mystery and NAIDOC Week Because of her…we can.”

Lyndon Davis: Gulangoor – Good Place | May 21 – July 14
Lyndon Davis was raised on the Sunshine Coast by his grandmother, and is blessed to have learnt the old stories from her. Lyndon’s art represents his deep connection to country and depicts stories of this landscape’s flora and fauna and their creation stories.
An official closing event for this exhibition will take place during NAIDOC Week, on Friday, July 13 at 1pm.
Upcoming displays:
Made possible through council’s Reconciliation Action Plan, artists Jason Murphy, Lyndon Davis and Belle Hartnell will be commissioned to create a new work for the Sunshine Coast Art Collection, to be unveiled during NAIDOC Week 2018.
As a part of this project, entry signage has also been installed at all council libraries, including the two mobile libraries, acknowledging the Traditional Owners.
