Engage and entertain the kids with trees for life
While it might be winter these school holidays, there’s no reason to keep the kids bundled up and bored indoors when a number of fun, creative and informative workshops are being held at Maroochy Regional Bushland Botanic Garden and Maroochy Wetland Sanctuary.
While it might be winter these school holidays, there’s no reason to keep the kids bundled up and bored indoors when a number of fun, creative and informative workshops are being held at Maroochy Regional Bushland Botanic Garden and Maroochy Wetland Sanctuary.
Environment Portfolio Councillor Jenny McKay said the Winter 2016 Holiday Workshop Program, themed ‘Trees for life’, included everything from feathered forests, fabulous eggshells and cottonwood leaves to wetland bugs, woven whipbirds and marvellous moulds.
“All of the winter workshops are about enabling the children to explore and connect with nature in a fun and creative way,” Cr McKay said.
“A particularly exciting workshop next Tuesday June 28 is the weaving workshop to engage children in weaving a whipbird for the Whipbird Village at the Maroochy Botanic Garden.
“Children will also be able to create their own woven bowl to take home.
“Or maybe a boardwalk stroll through the paperbark, mangrove, and rain forests at Maroochy Wetland Sanctuary on Monday June 27 to see which bugs can be found and identified is more suited to their taste.
“The youngsters will also learn how to discover hidden treasures in their own gardens.
“There are also workshops for children to discover details and use images of threatened species of the Garden to create a print artwork, or to decorate gorgeous wooden eggs after exploring the intricate textures and colours in the patterns of egg shells laid from our local native birds, and more.”
Please note that a registration fee of $7.50 per child is payable at the time of booking. Some workshops may have an additional cost for materials.
