Brisbane Symphony Orchestra promises an afternoon of fun for children of all ages with their performance of Peter and the Wolf at council’s Lake Kawana Community Centre at 3pm on Sunday, March 4.

Brisbane Symphony Orchestra is getting up close and personal with animals in this concert which will introduce children to every instrument in the orchestra through the Hello to the Orchestra musical piece by Sean O’Boyle - one of Australia's most significant composers, music educators and conductors.

Brisbane Symphony Orchestra will also play a polka written for a young elephant – in fact, 50 elephants and 50 ballerinas - by Russian composer Igor Stravinsky.

From elephants, the orchestra will move to wolves, and ducks, and cats – and, of course, the story of Peter and the Wolf which was made famous by another Russian composer, Sergei Prokofiev, who has cunningly turned the oboist Frances into a duck, the flautist Lee into a little bird and the clarinettist Gavin into a cat.

This story is beautifully narrated by Jason Barry Smith and this concert is a must for the young and not so young.

Tickets are $35 for adults, $30 for concessions and $10 for children aged three to 17.

For bookings please call Lake Kawana Community Centre on 5413 1400 or visit www.scvenuesandevents.com.au.
