World-leading pharmaceutical and biotechnology giants have turned to the Sunshine Coast for their medical communication requirements, thanks to a local firm who were acknowledged by the Council today.
Noosa-based business ProScribe have dominated the niche industry of medical communications by building a network of international clients in the United States, Europe and the Asia-Pacific.
Exporting an innovative product from the Sunshine Coast is reflective of businesses the Sunshine Coast Council is attracting through their Natural Advantage initiative.
Economic Development and Council Entrepreneurship portfolio Chair Councillor Lew Brennan said with an innovative business idea and export focus, ProScribe demonstrates that you can operate a successful business and at the same time enjoy a Sunshine Coast lifestyle.
"The Sunshine Coast is well adept to cater for export-focused businesses and ProScribe prove you can run a highly successful business and still enjoy the lifestyle benefits the Sunshine Coast delivers. Basically you can have your cake and eat it too."
"Sunshine Coast Council is committed to attracting and growing existing companies such as ProScribe through our economic development initiative, Natural Advantage. This includes building infrastructure, providing support to existing companies and marketing the region as a premium place for vibrant, green and diverse business. All with the intention of creating a more diverse and sustainable Sunshine Coast."
"Businesses like ProScribe add value to our region, provide local employment and have helped put the Sunshine Coast on the map as an industry leader in medical communications. This is invaluable to the long-term economic development of the region."
ProScribe owners Dr. Mark and Dr. Karen Woolley relocated from Sydney to the Sunshine Coast in 2000 to establish Proscribe and at the same time provide a more suitable environment for their young family. Their decision to move here has been rewarded in a number of ways. In 2004 Dr. Karen Woolley won the Telstra Business Women’s Award and ProScribe were the first Australian company to comply with International Good Publication Practice. In addition, they’ve got to enjoy an unrivalled Sunshine Coast lifestyle.
Dr. Karen Woolley says operating out of the Sunshine Coast instead of a major city has only been of benefit to the business.
"Being away from the chaos has helped us succeed," she said. "Instead of spending two hours travelling to and from work, that time goes back into the business or into our family."
"You need to be export-focused to succeed in business on the Sunshine Coast. Think about what you can sell from the Sunshine Coast, not to the Sunshine Coast."
The Natural Advantage initiative is designed to encourage more vibrant, green and diverse businesses to consider this premium location. Ultimately the campaign will help ensure the economic sustainability of the Sunshine Coast indeed helping transform it into Australia’s most sustainable region.
