The Sunshine Coast received an environmental boost yesterday, with community members making the most of fine weather to plant thousands of trees at National Tree Day events.

Sunshine Coast Council organised four events that attracted hundreds of participants to plant 7000 new trees.

Environment Portfolio Councillor Tony Wellington said that the National Tree Day events were something for the Sunshine Coast to be proud of.

"It is great that we had such an impressive turnout at these events – I would like to say thank you to all of the volunteers who helped out on the weekend," said Cr Wellington.

"7000 new trees is a terrific contribution to our region and its environmental sustainability."

Volunteers enjoyed wildlife displays and a free sausage sizzle at the events.

If you are keen to help our local environment, visit council’s website, it makes it easy for residents to participate in similar environmental events at any time of the year.
