Escape the heat and join in some summer fun at Caloundra Regional Gallery during January.

Start by visiting the current Lincoln Austin exhibition, After Reflecting on the Matter, and try your hand at some of Lincoln’s techniques in the self-guided activity space. Available until January 15.

Kids of all ages can get creative at Art Attack on Saturday, January 7 and 21. Please remember to wear suitable clothing (old clothes or a protective shirt)…. you could get a little messy during Art Attack! Entry is by gold coin per person. No bookings are required but all children must be accompanied by a parent or carer.

On Sunday, January 8 and 15, the gallery will host a pop-up gallery space in Felicity Park enticing visitors to get creative with an activity inspired by the current exhibition. Join in and unleash your inner creativity.

On Wednesday, January 18, a stunning exhibition by 2016 Sunshine Coast Art Prize winner Michael Cook will open to the public. Mother is a journey through 13 images of a woman in a deserted Australian landscape. The “mother” is always alone, her baby absent, although evidence of a child remains in the empty pram, abandoned toys on the hopscotch court, the slackness of the skipping rope.

Alongside Mother, is an exhibition by Sydney-based artist Natalya Hughes. All of Your Women and Some of Mine presents paintings from a recent series which examine representations of the female form, alongside a wall paper design by the artist.

Both exhibitions will be on display from Wednesday, January 18 until Sunday, February 26, 2017.

Learn more about the exhibitions and hear from the artists themselves at the free Uncovered conversations. On Friday, January 20, Natalya Hughes will reveal the thoughts and processes that inspire her artwork. Then, on Saturday, January 21, gallery curator Hamish Sawyer will chat with Michael Cook to dig deeper in to the inspiration behind Mother. Book via the gallery website.

We kick off Friday3Live at the gallery for 2017 on January 20, with a celebration of the female form. Stay on after the official opening of _Mother_ and _All of Your Women and Some of Mine_ for a one-hour gestural drawing event from 8-9pm. All materials are supplied and live music will complement the mood. Book and pay via the gallery website. Cost $5.
