Studying on the coast and want to tell the world about it? Study Sunshine Coast wants to hear from you!

Study Sunshine Coast is calling for passionate Sunshine Coast students to join the 2018 Student Ambassador Program to promote the benefits of studying on the Sunshine Coast to cultures around the world.

Supported by foundation partners Education Sunshine Coast and Sunshine Coast Council, Study Sunshine Coast coordinates the promotion of Sunshine Coast education and training strengths to local and international markets, and provides a central resource of information regarding studying, living and experiencing the best of the Sunshine Coast region.

Student ambassadors will share their real-life stories as a student living and studying on the Sunshine Coast through blogs and social media to their home country networks, friends and colleagues, encouraging others to consider the region as a preferred study destination.

Council’s Economic Development Portfolio Councillor Stephen Robinson said the Sunshine Coast was the perfect place for local and international students to live and study.

“We want our student leaders to stand up and tell the world about the opportunities we have here,” Cr Robinson said.

“The Sunshine Coast has so much to offer.

“We have great natural wonders, terrific academic, sporting and employment opportunities and a safe and relaxed lifestyle.

“This program empowers students to tell their personal stories and experiences of what it’s like to study, live, work and play on the Sunshine Coast, to their networks overseas.

“Being a Study Sunshine Coast Ambassador is a unique opportunity to stretch yourself, develop your own leadership skills and make a positive impact on others.”

Study Sunshine Coast coordinator Kim Baldwin said the Sunshine Coast was becoming an increasingly popular and desirable destination for study purposes, with recent data indicating Queensland has a higher percentage of English language learners in regional locations than any other Australian state*.

“Local and international student leaders who are passionate about promoting the Sunshine Coast as a premier study destination and who are keen to network with industry, build new skills and participate in some exclusive activities and events are encouraged to apply,” she said.

“International students are often visited by friends and relatives while they are here, with up to four friends and family visiting for every one student, which significantly contributes to the economic growth and diversity of our region.”

Current Study Sunshine Coast student ambassador Yuhong (Sarah) Sun from China strongly encouraged students studying on the Sunshine Coast to take advantage of this incredible opportunity.

“I have been fortunate to participate in a range of exciting activities showcasing the Sunshine Coast region, including jet boating, paddleboarding, visiting Australia Zoo and meeting key industry representatives including members of parliament and Sunshine Coast councillors.

“I’ve also made lifelong friendships too and learnt so much along the way.”

Applications for the 2018 program close on January 31, 2018 and limited places are available.
