Be captivated and enjoy a good laugh with friends at Queensland Theatre Company’s charming new production, Quartet, for one performance only at council’s Lake Kawana Community Centre on Saturday, February 27 at 7.30pm.
The touring version of the production, by Ronald Harwood, has been announced as part of QTC’s 2016 regional Queensland tour which will include this performance on the Sunshine Coast.
Queensland Theatre Company is renowned for its high quality, awe-inspiring performances that capture the imagination of audience members and take them on a journey.
The theatre production centres on retired opera singers Reggie, Cissy and Wilf who have come off the world tour and been put out to pasture in a country retirement home. Their chief concerns are scatty Cissy’s wandering memory, flirty Wilf’s obsession with dirty talk, and gentleman Reggie’s ongoing battle to get bloody marmalade with breakfast.
What keeps the trio raging against the dying of the light is headlining the annual gala concert marking composer Verdi’s birthday.
The serenity of their rehearsal room is shattered by the arrival of Jean ─ a diva, celebrated soprano, fourth member of their old quartet and Reggie’s ex-wife.
Can these four put aside old grudges and re-team for one more show-stopping finale?
Quartet, also adapted as an acclaimed 2012 film, is a devilishly funny journey into old age told with tenderness, grace, hope – and above all, no self-pity.
Quartet will be showing for one night only and early bird tickets are now on sale from $35 for a limited time.
