Planning the next generation’s housing needs

The delivery of more affordable housing across South East Queensland will be boosted by the development of consistent planning scheme provisions for the region’s councils under the Next Generation Planning (NGP) project.

This Australian Government Housing Affordability Fund (HAF) initiative was presented to council’s Housing Affordability Taskforce today by HAF Queensland programme director Ray Aspey.

The NGP project focuses on developing and implementing consistent housing affordability policies and codes within the SE Queensland region by working collaboratively with councils, the Council of Mayors (SEQ) and State Government.

Social Policy portfolio holder, Cr Anna Grosskreutz said the NGP project has the potential to help council deliver its vision for sustainable, affordable living.

“Council’s vision for more affordable living needs initiatives like the Next Generation Planning project to provide greater choice and more affordable housing product to meet the shortfall that exists now and in the future,” Cr Grosskreutz said.

“When complete the NGP project will mean a consistent regional approach to housing policies and codes and will save local council’s time preparing and implementing planning schemes.

“Most importantly, it will give the development industry confidence to develop more affordable housing not only on the Sunshine Coast but across the SE Queensland region.”

Funding for the NGP project is provided by the Housing Affordability Fund, an initiative of the Australian Government’s Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs.
