Our funniest and favourite pet names revealed
With annual pet registration due soon, Council reveals our region’s most-popular - and funniest - pet names.

Sunshine Coast Council has revealed our region’s top pet names - and some more unusual choices - to promote the annual registration renewal deadline, this September 30.
Not an easy task given there are more than 66,000 registered cats and dogs in our furry part of the world.
Stand-out dog names included Basil Albatross Piccaninny, Boo Boo Nasty, Albus Dumbledore, Albie Dumbledog, Chai Latte, Elvenhome Moonlite Sonata and Grommet (pictured above).
Some owners went for more regal titles like Duke Augustine and Sir Waddlesworth.
Cat names also produced some crackers, including Strepsil, Schrodinger, Bill Murray and Benito Burrito.
Whatever you call your best mate – make sure their rego is up to date!
Animal lover and Managing for Growth Portfolio Councillor Christian Dickson, knows the importance of registering your pet with Council.
“My dog’s Cally and Atlas (pictured above) know their names when I call them, but if they were to get lost, they can’t tell someone what that name is or say where they live, Cr Dickson said.
“They’re both smart Kelpie cross dogs - but not that smart!”
“My dogs are too important to me to risk not registering them with Council.”
“Losing a pet is distressing for the pet and their owners, so the sooner we can reunite a lost animal with its family the better.
“During the 2024-2025 financial year, Council re-united 117 cats and 260 dogs who were taken to Council’s animal management facility.
“We want to reduce these numbers by encouraging pet owners to permanently attach Council tags to their pet’s collar.”
Pet registration is $30 for desexed and microchipped animals and $15 for current pensioner card holders.
There is also the option of a lifetime registration for desexed and microchipped cats – only $109 with no annual renewal fee required.
