Noosa Planning Scheme changes to give greater choice
A package of amendments to the Noosa Plan, the planning scheme for the former Noosa Shire, go on public display next week ( 22 July 2008) giving the community an opportunity to have its say on changes that promise greater choice when it comes to setting up a business or a home in the northern part of the Sunshine Coast Region.
Statutory and Regional Planning Portfolio holder, Councillor Russell Green, said that while many of the changes proposed were relatively minor others were more significant.
“What we are looking at is a shift in policy or philosophy in a range of areas of the Noosa Plan to provide more flexibility,” Cr Russell said.
“These shifts allow for an increase in housing choice, introduce new provision for aged care and make it easier to start a new business in existing business centres and industrial estates.
“The amendments also address one of the major issued on the coast - transport - by introducing requirements for sustainable transport options such as cycling and public transport, for any new commercial or community development.”
The Noosa Plan, alongside the planning schemes for the former Maroochy Shire and Caloundra City, will remain in effect until a new Sunshine Coast Regional Council planning scheme is developed.
“This will take some time so until then, the processes of ensuring the three individual planning schemes remain living documents which reflects the needs and visions of our dynamic and diverse communities, will need to remain in place.
“This includes regular reviews and rounds of amendments to the schemes.
“So I encourage the local community to get involved and take a look at the proposed amendments, ask officers what they mean if you are unsure - and have your say.”
This is the second round of amendments for the Noosa Plan since it was adopted in 2006. It contains the development criteria and strategic direction for the northern part of the Sunshine Coast.
