Nambour Heritage Soundtrail puts the hipster into one of our oldest towns

Drawing together history and community heritage, local stories and great original music, the Nambour Heritage Soundtrail launched today (August 23) is a contemporary take on a truly historic town.

The Soundtrail is a new GPS activated audio story trail that features 18 Nambour stories told by locals, including Bob Collins, June Upton, Brent Miller, Lyndon Davis and many more.

From the sugar mill, beauty quests and an old Vogue cinema, to the infamy of Bayards Corner and Collins Café, the Nambour Heritage Soundtrail brings to life the stories and memories that  are buried beneath the streets of Nambour.

With Powderfinger and ABC Sunshine Coast’s Jon Coghill as the narrator, sound design by award-winning producer Hamish Sewell and stunning backings by local band Biscuit, the Nambour Heritage Soundtrail puts the hipster into the heritage of one of the Sunshine Coast’s oldest towns.

Divisional councillor Greg Rogerson said preserving and sharing our region’s heritage was important for the whole community.

“We all remember places and stories, people and things from our past – and we know how important these are to us personally, and to our families,” Cr Rogerson said.

“As a community, it is the sharing of our history that shapes our identity and what it means to be a Sunshine Coast resident.

“The Nambour Heritage Soundtrail is a fantastic and innovative way to highlight the town’s diverse heritage and I encourage everyone to download the app, grab their headphones and enjoy a walk along the trail.”

The Nambour Heritage Soundtrail is supported by the Cultural Heritage Levy.

Start the tour at Nambour Library and use the free council wi-fi to download the Soundtrails App to your tablet or smartphone. Don’t forget your headphones.

To add to the experience, take a photo while you’re doing the Nambour Heritage Soundtrail between Wednesday, August 23 and Sunday, October 1, and you could win an iPad mini 4 and earpods.
