A beautiful sunset and the golden sand of Mooloolaba Beach is the perfect location for the free Cinema in the Sand movie series these summer holidays.

Division 4 Councillor John Connolly said due to popular demand, and thanks to council’s community safety funding, Cinema in the Sand would return bigger and better with family friendly classic movies from December 16.

“There is no doubt communities thrive when people are able to come together in a safe and inviting environment and Mooloolaba is definitely the place to be these summer holidays,” Cr Connolly said.

“Mooloolaba offers a family-friendly location to enjoy popular movies including Despicable Me, Moana, Finding Dory and more.

“Simply BYO blanket, towel, bean bag or beach chair and grab some delicious takeaway from one of the nearby restaurants.”

Cr Connolly said the recent addition of fairy lights in the trees along the Mooloolaba Esplanade would add to the region’s largest free New Year’s Eve celebration on December 31.

“This will be a great celebration with entertainment for all ages,” Cr Connolly said.

“With entertainment kicking off at 4.30pm on the main stage with a range of music, including Andrea Kirwin Trio, Mason Hope, and The Floating Bridges to name a few, children won’t miss out with kids shows, activities and roving entertainment.

“Of course Mooloolaba New Year’s Eve is renowned for its amazing fireworks displays which will light up the sky at 8.30pm and midnight.”

Mooloolaba Business and Tourism vice-president Steven Allen said thanks to council funding the Cinema in the Sand will return to the community for free.

“These movies are all about gathering friends and family and taking some time out during the idyllic summer holidays and there is no better place than Mooloolaba Beach to unwind,” Mr Allen said.

“The popular Sunset Cocktails event will continue to bring the cocktail party to the people on the last Friday of each month and of course the Mooloolaba Beach Markets will be offering fantastic local produce, craft and food.

“Stay tuned as Mooloolaba Business and Tourism members are planning many more exciting events for the Mooloolaba horizon in 2018.”
