Making local roads safer is a top priority for Sunshine Coast Council.

Works will soon commence on a project to improve safety for motorists on Mons Road, Buderim. Transport and Engineering Services Manger Brian Peebles said council would soon commence pavement and lane widening on a section of Mons Road.

"This work is proposed to improve the safety of this particular section of Mons Road that currently has narrow traffic lanes and inadequate road shoulders," he said.

Work will commence at the interection of Forest View Court and continue for approximately 350 metres to the intersection of Monscott Place. The widening of the traffic lands will ensure they are compliant with current standards. Bicycle lanes will also be added on both sides of the road.

The project is set to commence on 22 May and completion is anticipated within eight weeks (weather permitting). Traffic management measures will be in place to ensure the safety of pedestrians and motorists while works are in progress. Council will endeavour to minimise disruption to nearby residences however access may be affected for short durations.

Council officers will contact affected properties where relevant to discuss any access issues.
