Miss Australia apron inspires Caloundra Embroiderers
An 80-year-old apron in the Bankfoot House collection has inspired the Caloundra Embroiderers to create their own personal designs and present the aprons to the Friends of Bankfoot House for inclusion in the collection.
An 80-year-old apron in the Bankfoot House collection has inspired the Caloundra Embroiderers to create their own personal designs and present the aprons to the Friends of Bankfoot House for inclusion in the collection.
Community Programs Portfolio Councillor Jenny McKay said she would like to personally thank the Caloundra Embroiderers for donating the beautiful aprons, which were inspired by viewing the 1934 Miss Australia apron during a visit to Bankfoot House
“Although the original apron was never embroidered, working this calico apron would probably have been a project for Clementina Burgess who lived all her life at Bankfoot House,” Cr McKay said.
Christine Holmes from Caloundra Embroiderers said her group had seen the Miss Australia apron on a visit to Bankfoot House.
“I was very inspired to copy the pattern as a project for our members,” she said.
“The design was traced onto acid-free paper by two members using white gloves to protect the fabric of the original.
“Our members worked at their own place and used their own choice of colours and style of embroidery.
“The embroidered aprons were on display at the Caloundra Embroiderers 20th anniversary celebrations.”
“The Friends of Bankfoot House attended the celebrations to talk to the visitors about Bankfoot House,” Ms Holmes said.
“We are extremely proud our personally created aprons will become part of the Bankfoot House collection and hope visitors will enjoy them for many years to come.”
