Last year Sunshine Coast’s Chinese Association’s successfully applied for Major Grant Funding from Council for their Full Moon Festival event.

Do you have a great community project, event or idea, but need some funding to make it happen?

Council wants to help!

Council’s Major Grants are a twice-yearly opportunity for not-for-profit organisations to apply for funding support to deliver one-off projects, activities and events that have broad community benefit.

Sunshine Coast Council Strong Community Portfolio Councillor David Law said Sunshine Coast Council’s next round of Major funding for local, not-for-profit community groups was now open for submissions and would close on August 25.

“During the last round of Major Grants earlier this year, 140 applicants successfully gained funding for their groups,” Cr Law said.

“Whether you are part of a community group, sporting club, arts and cultural group, multicultural or First Nations group, or volunteers working in areas like homelessness, mental health or youth, I hope this next round of funding encourages a new batch of community groups to give it a go too.

“The grants program aims to acknowledge and strengthen the valuable contribution community groups and volunteers provide to our community.”

“Please reach out to Council’s Grants Team about your community event, activity or project, and they will provide you and your not-for-profit organisation with guidance on how to submit a strong application.”

Where to start

Applicants can apply for up to $15,000 in all program categories with up to $30,000 available for infrastructure projects in the Community Facilities category. Co-funding contribution is required for amounts over $7,500.

Major Grant applications can be submitted in one of six categories:

  • Community Development
  • Community Facilities
  • Creative Development
  • Cultural Heritage
  • Economic Development
  • Sport and Recreation.

Environment Levy Grants

Environment Levy Grants of up to $5,000 are available to not-for-profit community organisations for projects that make a positive and ongoing contribution to the region's biodiversity and waterways.

The Environment Levy Grant round is now open and close on August 25, 2025. For more information and to apply online, visit Council’s website.

Are you eligible?

Funding is available for a range of local not-for-profit community groups. Whether you’re a community development organisation, creative arts group, heritage society, local community hall group, industry group, chamber network or sporting group, Council funds projects, activities and events that benefit our community.

If your community group hasn’t applied for Council funding before and doesn’t know where to start, Council’s Grants Team runs drop-in Q&A sessions and grant writing workshops at our local libraries.

Groups that have applied previously and missed out, are encouraged to reapply. Reach out to Council’s Grants Team about your application to receive advice and feedback to strengthen your next application.
