If you have a passion to give back to the community and have fun at the same time, Sunshine Coast Council is looking for volunteers to assist in the delivery of children’s activities in The Corner play spaces located in various libraries across the Coast.
The Corner based on the State Library of Queensland model is a space within the children’s library designed to encourage curiosity and creativity and is dedicated to under eights and their families. The Corner is a curated space with varying themes which offers children and parents the freedom to experiment and play with objects and ideas and operates Monday to Friday. Children are encouraged to explore, think and invent something familiar out of the unfamiliar or create something unexpected out of the expected.
The Corner program is being extended to six of the Coast’s libraries in August including Noosa, Maroochydore, Nambour, Coolum, Caloundra and Maleny. Eligible volunteers are now being sought to assist staff with the preparation of resources for activities and delivering a range of arts-based programs in The Corner.
So if you have spare time on your side, a love for creative play, language, sound and providing a rewarding service for the under eights on the Coast, then this is the volunteer role for you.
As a volunteer you will be trained in library services and activities while gaining skills in early literacy and the “learn through play” model. Sunshine Coast Libraries continually develop training and services to support and enhance the valuable volunteer program.
To register your interest to be a Corner volunteer please call 1300 LIBRARY (1300 5427 279).
