A locally produced comedy series is one of the beneficiaries of more than $40,000 that has been awarded to Sunshine Coast artists in the latest round of Regional Arts Development Fund grants.
Ten creative and development projects spanning theatre, film, writing, music, visual arts, craft and design were funded through major, small and individual development grants.
One exciting project set to inspire and make your laugh is a new web TV series titled Hard Knock Life - a story about three young adults who share their experiences and stories on love, relationships and life with interesting comedic twists that everyone can relate to.
Local artist Laree Gadenne will lead the project which has received a major RADF grant of $7000 contributing to the writing, filming, directing and production of the five episode comedy series.
The project offers significant development opportunities for Laree, an emerging actor and script writer, and will also give local aspiring actors the opportunity to take part in a professional production.
Laree said she wanted to build on the evolving industry on the Sunshine Coast so it could be recognised as a hub for professional actors and creative industries.
“Currently, the majority of auditions and castings take place in Brisbane, which requires a lot of local actors having to make the journey, and thus compete with larger agencies,” she said.
“This is why we wanted to create Hard Knock Life here on the Sunshine Coast.
“The series will feature three major lead roles, as well as give 30 - 50 people the opportunity to be cast for supporting and extras roles.
“The project is designed to give local actors the opportunity for professional development and to further develop their acting skills, without having to travel out of town on a regular basis.”
The RADF program offers Major Arts Grants of up to $10,000, Small Arts Grants of up to $3000 and Individual Development Grants of up to $1500 for international opportunities and $750 for national opportunities.
The Regional Arts Development Fund is a partnership between the Queensland Government and Sunshine Coast Council to support local arts and culture in regional Queensland.
The Queensland Government, through Arts Queensland, is contributing $2.08 million to the 2017-18 RADF partnership across 59 councils state-wide.
