Artists of the vocal variety aren’t the only ones with a chance to make some noise at this year’s Caloundra Music Festival.

Locals with a flair for graphic art will also have a chance to express their talents at one of the Coast’s major cultural events.
Festival Director Richie Eyles said a competition to design the event’s official poster was now open to local residents.
“This is a first for the Caloundra Music Festival and it’s offering Sunshine Coast residents some fantastic rewards if they can come up with the winning design for this year’s event poster,” he said.
“The successful entrant will win $2000 in prize money and have the chance to work with the Festival team and have their design developed and displayed to the world via posters, TV, website, festival T-shirts and other merchandise.”
“The Festival is a significant event for the Coast and one that the Sunshine Coast Council is very proud to partner with many local supporters to bring to fruition.
“Offering this competition brings a new community dimension to the event and is really going to enhance that local flavour.”
There will also be a number of competition prizes for runners-up, including Festival tickets and merchandise.
Deputy Mayor and Division 2 Councillor Tim Dwyer has applauded this initiative.
“Stimulating community and business interest in the Festival will further enhance the event's reputation and continue to provide social and economic benefits for Caloundra and the region,” he said.
The Festival, now in its 5th year, has gone from strength to strength attracting Australian and international artists including Powderfinger, Jet, Paul Kelly, Jimmy Barnes, Pete Murray, Hoodoo Gurus, Kate Miller Heidke and Toni Childs.
Local and emerging artists also appear at the Festival, performing to the big crowds alongside the headline acts.
The 2011 Festival is also seeking sponsorship from businesses.
Sponsoring the Festival offers a great opportunity to be promoted to thousands of visitors and locals, as well as contributing to the local community.
Economic Development Portfolio Councillor Lew Brennan said the Caloundra Music Festival provided a major boost to the local economy and tourism industry.
“It is great to see that the Festival’s support for local creative industries will be stronger than ever this year,” he said.
“This design competition is a great opportunity for another talented local artist to kick start their career,” he said.
The design competition closes on 28 February 2011.
