Last chance to enter Glossies

Residents, businesses and community groups have until Friday to enter this year’s Living Smart Glossies Awards.

Sunshine Coast Council’s Environment Portfolio Councillor Tony Wellington said the awards celebrated achievements in sustainability and offered some great promotional opportunities.

"The Glossies are a terrific opportunity for the Sunshine Coast community to celebrate the innovative sustainability achievements that are occurring all across our region," he said.

"As well as accolades, winners of the Glossies Awards also enjoy valuable promotional exposure. And there are exciting prizes to be won, including an AuziMax energy monitoring system."

Yandina-based coatings manufacturer business Rockcote took out the Hall of Fame Award at the Glossies last year.

Owner Bob Cameron said while they had won international and national awards, it was important to be recognised at a local level.

“To be awarded by people who really know us ‘warts and all’ is a great honour,” he said.

“Also to know that to be selected it had to be a unanimous decision by the panel who represented a broad range of sectors.

“Winning awards gives your business credibility. Local awards can also assist in building the environmental positioning of a region, which is important if we’re to be recognised as leaders in smart industry and clean manufacturing.”

Co-creator of the Earth Hour initiative and star of The Gruen Transfer Todd Sampson will be keynote speaker at the event on Saturday 29 June, joining MC Sofie Formica.

The 2013 Living Smart Glossies Awards are hosted by Sunshine Coast Council and sponsored by University of the Sunshine Coast, Auzion Sustainable Solutions, Cleantech Industries, Unitywater, Seven Network, and Sunshine Coast Daily.
