Kawana Library refresh to benefit the community

Vibrant, inviting and modern – these are just some of the words council expects visitors to the Kawana Library will be using next month when the much-needed refurbishment is unveiled to the public.

While the library will be closed from Monday, May 30 to Sunday, June 5 to allow the work to be undertaken, the results will be worth the wait.

Division 4 Councillor John Connolly said the new look, contemporary space at Kawana Library would reflect council’s commitment to investing in the much-loved library service to ensure it remained relevant and responsive to new and existing audiences while continuing to have a positive, ongoing influence in our diverse communities.

“As part of a region-wide refurbishment program, our popular Kawana Library will be undergoing a $230,000 refurbishment which will deliver a vibrant and fresh facility for everyone in the community to enjoy,” Mr Connolly said.

“Sunshine Coast Libraries are one of council’s most visible and highly utilised and valued services with more than 1.5 million visits in 2014/15.

“While future library centres will provide individual, unique and flexible environments designed to complement the distinct locality and communities they represent, the Kawana Library refurbishment is a step in the right direction.

“The changes will ensure the library appropriately responds to the significant estimated population increase for this part of the Coast.”

During the library closure, some limited services including storytime, newspapers, limited borrowing and limited Wi-Fi access will be available via a pop-up library in the rotunda area from 9am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday.

Customers will also be able to pick up reservations made online or at other branches, and return items during this time. And of course, as always, you can visit another of our libraries or, if you prefer, the eLibrary which is available 24/7 via the library website.
