Young Kawana Library members will love the refurbished children’s area which will offer a vibrant space for the toy library and craft activities when it is completed in late March.

The refurbishment of the children’s outdoor area will complement the new contemporary Kawana Library which was refurbished in June 2016.

Division 4 Councillor John Connolly said the feedback on the refurbishment works at the new-look library has been extremely positive.

“Unfortunately the $230,000 budget for the refurbishment of the Kawana Library did not stretch to include the outdoor children’s area which needed some major structural work so that it can be accessed all year round,” Cr Connolly said.

“I made a commitment to fund the improvements of this popular area from my divisional budget and I am pleased to now advise works will start this month and expect to be completed by March 31.

“While there will be some inconvenience for library members during this period, the end result for our young people – the readers of tomorrow – will be exceptional.”

To note:

  • Parking bays at the front of the library will be inaccessible during the construction period from Friday, February 24 to Friday, March 31.
  • The Toy Library will be closed during the refurbishment. Disruption to other services during this time is not anticipated.
  • There will be some noise due to the construction and the Library Service would like to thank the community for their understanding during this time.
