It’s holiday fun time on the Sunshine Coast

The fun kicks off on Tuesday 14 April with Rumpelstiltskin, a not-to-be-missed interactive theatre performance for primary school-aged children at The J in Noosa Junction.

In this magical production, the audience gets to be part of the action – as pigs, chickens, cows, woodchoppers, townspeople or other key characters. They are led by the well-known actors of Jally Productions who brought us the massively successful Cinderella goes Disco.

There are two performances at 11am and 1pm on 14 April and tickets are available from The J for $12 or $ 10 for groups of eight or more. For bookings phone 5455 4455.

And the fun doesn’t stop there. Children of all ages are catered for at Sunshine Coast Libraries over the Easter holidays. Highlights include:

  • The Bee Happy Puppet Show for children aged two and over at Noosa Library (10am) and Caloundra Library (1.30pm) on Tuesday 14 April and then Coolum Library (10am) and Beerwah Library (1.30pm) on Friday 17 April.
  • For young Jamie Olivers, Beerwah Library has Fun Things to Make and Eat at 11am on 14 April and Kawana Library has a Kids Cooking Class for seven to nine-year-olds on Thursday 16 April from 10-11am. Kids will prepare a special morning tea to share.
  • Hello Africa! Learn about Africa, play musical instruments and make a lot of noise at Maroochydore Library at 10am and Maleny Library from 1.30pm on Wednesday 15 April.

Caloundra Regional Gallery has an eye-opening workshop planned for Wednesday 15 April. when Sunshine Coast Art Prize finalist Lisa Lee will run a creative and fun workshop that aims to educate children on vision loss and acceptance of visual impairment. The focus is on non-visual sensory stimulation through creative activities including group games, painting, beading and hands-on activities from 10.30am till midday. Art Unseen is $15 including all materials and bookings are essential on 5420 8299.

An action-packed program is planned for the Noosa Leisure Centre and Vacation Care at Sunshine Beach from 14 to 20 April. Special themed days include Easter celebrations, African drumming, discos, an in-house restaurant and a circus day. To book a place, please call 54471177.

And while you’re in Noosa, don’t forget the free holiday buses operating from 10 April to 13 April. You can catch almost any bus from any bus stop from Cooran to Peregian for free. This is not a shuttle service, but the existing bus routes 626, 627, 628, 629 and 632 are all free. Additional temporary Routes 064 (Peregian to Noosa Heads) and 065 (Noosa Junction to Tewantin via Noosa Heads and Gympie Terrace) are both free.

A convenient and free park ‘n’ ride location is provided at Noosa Junction on the corner of Cooyar Street and Sunshine Beach Road. From there, you can jump on any of the free buses on Sunshine Beach Road.

It’s just one of the many ways that council is working to give you a safe and hassle-free Easter break.

The Holiday Safety Campaign is the work of council and its partners to promote important safety messages to residents and visitors over Easter. As part of council's ongoing commitment to community safety, the campaign runs until Monday 20 April, 2009.

It works by spreading public safety messages across the region, in collaboration with partners, to lower the number of recorded incidents for accidents, crime and public unrest over the holiday period. The focus is on road safety, self-responsibility and community safety.

To promote the Easter campaign, Roadcraft and the Sunshine Coast Daily have partnered with council to offer readers the opportunity to win one of 10 Young Driver Courses from Roadcraft.
