Nambour based artist Evangeline Cachinero will deck the walls at the Noosa Regional Gallery in her upcoming solo exhibition, Monobrow, opening Friday 18 March.
Cachinero playfully balances lowbrow and highbrow art culture with a little tongue-in-cheek and positions her art “somewhere in the middle of the two”.
A mish-mash of many mediums and techniques and a bit of blood, sweat and tears, the show will comprise brand new artworks from 2011.
Notorious for big sudden jumps between style, technique and medium, Evangeline promises to surprise viewers with a fresh bag of tricks.
Evangeline said reinvention is part of who she is.
“I love to continually evolve as a person, and therefore my work evolves,” she said.
The paintings are built in layers using “sketching, painting, collage, washes, drippings, spray paint, resin, charcoal, and anything lying in the studio”.
Alongside the mixed media pieces will be a video feature highlighting Cachinero’s process as well as a multimedia interactive installation. The web installation will enable gallery goers and people all around the world to participate through Twitter using either their computers or mobile phones.
Opening night for Monobrow is Friday 18 March from 6 to 8pm and the exhibition will run until 24 April 2011.
Noosa Regional Gallery opening hours are 10am to 4pm Wednesday to Sunday. For further information phone (07) 5449 5340.
