Hit the Garage Sale Trail across the Coast this weekend

Everyone loves a bargain and this year’s Sunshine Coast Garage Sale Trail, which takes place this weekend, is shaping up to be the biggestever sustainable shopping extravaganza with more than 1800 participants hosting and shopping at garage sales and stalls across the region.

Now in its seventh year, the national reuse and community initiative is offering up a trove of delightfully curious, collectable and colourful finds for shoppers across the region and nation.

Garage Sale Trail co-founder Darryl Nichols said past events had anything and everything listed for sale -  from a definitive collection of 1970s Rolling Stones magazines, to a beachside apartment, miniature goats, free pet baptisms and even a couple of grandpas.

“It’s not just about the quirky and the curious,” Mr Nichols said.

“The national event will see an estimated 350,000 Australians get involved has a serious side too.”

Environment Portfolio Councillor Jenny McKay said Sunshine Coast residents had embraced this year’s Trail which will celebrate sustainability within the community. Interested buyers can check out 66 garage sales and stalls registered across the region.

“Reusing or selling stuff you no longer want at a garage sale is a great form of sustainability and it’s a great way to meet the neighbours too,” Cr McKay said.

“It’s a really social and you get to seesome remarkable items that are unleashed from the sheds, and garages across our region.

“That’s what makes Garage Sale Trail a great mix of good times and good buys – all whilst promoting reuse.

“We’ve got garage sales registered rom Yaroomba and Coolum, through Buderim, Kuluin and Mooloolaba, right out to Beerwah and the Glass House Mountains.

“I’d encourage everyone to take this opportunity to explore our beautiful region, and bag a bargain.”
