Seniors attending the Healthy Ageing Partnership High Tea at Coolum Beach Retirement Community today (August 22) were among hundreds of seniors from across the Coast celebrating Seniors Week from August 19-27.

In recognition of the contribution our seniors make, Sunshine Coast Council partnered with the community to highlight Seniors Week activities and events, incorporating the theme Creating a Queensland for All Ages.

Guests at the Healthy Ageing Partnership Sundale High Tea were treated with entertainment by the Sunshine Coast Ukele Masters Group and the Sunshine Coast 60s and Better Belly Dancing Group.

Division 9 Councillor Stephen Robinson said it was important to acknowledge the invaluable contribution our seniors make every day to our community.

“Every day I have the pleasure of meeting seniors who contribute in so many ways. Whether it be volunteering in a community organisation or caring for their grandchildren ‒ our region is a much better place due to their dedicated efforts,” Cr Robinson said.

Community Portfolio Councillor Jenny McKay said in line with the priorities outlined in the Sunshine Coast Social Strategy, council had once again partnered with not-for-profit organisations and community groups to highlight Seniors Week activities and events.

“The week-long events calendar includes numerous high teas, Queensland Ballet workshops, Healthy Sunshine Coast Seniors classes and much more,” Cr McKay said.

“Our wonderful Sunshine Coast Libraries were also getting into the Seniors Week spirit by organising free information sessions and morning and afternoon teas.”
