Are you under 25? Do you have ideas, views and feedback you’d like to share about the environment, public safety and our community here on the Sunshine Coast?
Having a voice, being heard and making a difference is now as quick and easy as opening your smartphone and downloading the new Speak Up Engage app.
Sunshine Coast Council’s Speak Up Engage program is a unique and innovative youth engagement and development initiative created by young people for young people.
Sunshine Coast Youth Advisory Group member Sophie Greenhalgh said the new app was a fun and rewarding way for young people to share their thoughts and ideas about the Sunshine Coast.
“I’ve taken the new Speak Up Engage app for a test spin and it’s so super easy to navigate your way around and submit your ideas about what a strong community means to you, the environment and public safety on the Sunshine Coast,” Sophie said.
“The app is such a new and exciting way to start conversations about the things that are important to young people and it’s obvious that the Sunshine Coast Council are keen to hear our thoughts.
“The fact that you can also win prizes just by contributing your ideas on this app is pretty cool too!”
You can download the app by searching for ‘Speak Up Engage’ in iTunes or on android. Just by downloading the app and getting started you’ll be in the running to win great prizes, including Rebel Sport and JB Hi-Fi vouchers.
Community Portfolio Councillor Jenny McKay said the new Speak Up Engage app would enable more young people on the Sunshine Coast to feel empowered and contribute to the future of their region and was another way council was delivering on its vision for a healthy, smart and creative community.
“Speak Up Engage is such a wonderful initiative from council that really gives our young people a platform to have their say about the Sunshine Coast and the things that are important to them now as well as into the future,” Cr McKay said.
“This new app is perfect for young people who enjoy utilising technology to communicate and I hope all youngsters between the age of 12 and 25 really enjoy this opportunity to download the new app and have their say on issues and topics important to youth.”
Council has also recently launched the Speak Up Engage – Next Generation Health and Wellbeing podcast to continue to trial new and innovative ways to engage with our young people. The podcast series explores what it means to be healthy, vital, fit and high on life.
Young people on the Sunshine Coast are encouraged to join the conversation by heading to the Speak Up Engage Facebook page and tuning into the new Speak Up Engage podcast by visiting the Wellness Couch podcast network website.
