The Maroochy Wetlands Sanctuary, in Bli Bli, is coming alive with creativity and conservation as the Birds of Clay Project takes flight.

Hosted by Sunshine Coast Council, this unique art initiative invites the community to join visiting artist Christina Lowry in a hands-on clay workshop celebrating the incredible birdlife of Southeast Queensland.

As Artist-in-Residence, Christina Lowry will guide participants in crafting delicate bird skulls from porcelain clay, which will become part of a collaborative art installation.

Environment and Liveability Portfolio Councillor Maria Suarez said the project used art to highlight the Sunshine Coast’s rich birdlife, especially species under threat and in need of protection.

“The Birds of Clay Project is a wonderful way to bring people together through creativity while raising awareness of our local birdlife,” Cr Suarez said.

“It’s a hands-on, inspiring experience that connects art with environmental conservation.

“This is a rare opportunity to meet a talented artist, explore the beauty of the wetlands, and contribute to a meaningful community artwork. Don’t miss your chance to be part of this inspiring project!”
