Just two days remain to have your say on the draft Sunshine Coast Community Strategy 2019-2041 before submissions close on Friday (19 July).
Mayor Mark Jamieson said it is vital to have a strategy in place to ensure the Sunshine Coast continues be a healthy, active, inclusive, connected and engaged community as the region continues to grow over the next 20 years.
“We need to make sure the community is a clear beneficiary as the region grows and matures and that we have the right policy levers and programs in place so people, places and opportunities are connected, inclusive and cohesive,” Mayor Jamieson said.
“The foundations of our draft strategy are strong social justice principles – equity of access, the efficacy of human dignity and a level playing field – and these are reflected in our proposed vision “Together we thrive”.
Mayor Jamieson said community input had helped shape the vision for the draft strategy following extensive consultation in late 2018.
“Now’s the chance to influence and shape the draft strategy and in turn, the future of the communities of our Sunshine Coast.''
“Council invites feedback from people of all ages and backgrounds so that this strategy reflects our collective aspirations for the Sunshine Coast well into the future,” Mayor Jamieson said.
Community Portfolio Councillor Jenny McKay said council looks forward to continuing to work with many individuals, other levels of government and community organisations to strengthen the fabric and vitality of our communities.
“We want to build a more connected and inclusive community together – which is what healthy, smart, creative regions do,” she said.
“Keep an eye out for the council stand at Mooloolaba Street Fest, The Esplanade, Mooloolaba on Saturday 13 July from 5pm and at the Coolum Collective Markets at Barns Lane, Coolum Beach on Sunday 14 July, from 8:30am where you can review the draft Community Strategy 2019-2041 and provide your feedback,” Cr McKay said.
