Downloadable discounts on Events+ app

Major and regional events on the Sunshine Coast generate around $50million for the local economy and that positive impact could increase thanks to a new piece of online software.

The council-supported Events+ Offers and Reward app is now available and provides an innovative new platform for local businesses to promote offers and specials around major events.

Tourism Sport and Major Events Portfolio Councillor Jason O’Pray said the new app was another way in which local businesses could leverage major and regional events.

“The events pot of gold is right here on the Sunshine Coast and the Events+ MasterClasses have been showing businesses of all types how to maximise opportunities when these big events come to town,” he said.

“This new Events+ app takes it a step further and enables local businesses to put their special offers and discounts right in the hands of the thousands of people who come to the Sunshine Coast for big events.

Sunshine Coast Destination Limited CEO Simon Ambrose said information about the app would now be provided to all participants at major events.

“So everyone who registers or buys a ticket to events like the Caloundra Music Festival, the Mooloolaba Triathlon and next year’s Australian Surf Life Saving Titles will be provided with info about this new app and how to tap into these great local discounts during their stay here,” he said.

“The Sunshine Coast region’s reputation is boosted by our event portfolio but not everyone considers themselves part of the tourism industry or connected to events. However, event expenditure can flow to a range of non-traditional tourism businesses.

“The Events+ Offers and Rewards app provides the ideal tool to connect local businesses with visitors attending events in the region and can provide a significant stimulus to their business. Tourism really is everybody’s business.”

Paradise Seaplanes at Maroochydore is one of the first 70 local businesses to register on the Events+ Offers and Rewards app to date. Pilot Shawn Kelly said it was a progressive way of maximising business potential.

“The Sunshine Coast is such a desirable and popular location for big events of all kinds and so for our business we see this new app as an essential way to ensure we can make the most of these peak periods when large numbers of people come to town,” he said.
