Don’t fur-get to renew your pet registration

Pet owners will start receiving their annual Sunshine Coast Council animal registration renewal notices in the mail this week reminding them of the September 30, 2014 due date.

Community Programs Portfolio Councillor Jenny McKay said pet registration was focused on safety and security and played an important role in responsible pet ownership.

“All cats and dogs must be registered every year and wear a Council-issued registration tag when in public,” Cr McKay said.

“Registration is easy and helps Council to identify pets if they stray and reunite them quickly with their owners.

“It also helps Council provide a variety of animal management activities and facilities across the Sunshine Coast Council region including the pound facilities, dog off leash parks, proactive patrols and education programs such as PetPEP.

“We have also introduced a lifetime registration option for cat owners who have a desexed and microchipped cat of a $75 one-off fee or continuing with an annual registration of $12.90.

“To encourage and reward responsible pet owners, significant reductions in registration fees apply for desexed and microchipped dogs and cats, and for pensioners. Registration is also free for pets under six months old.

“The annual registration period for cats and dogs commences on October 1 each year and extends to September 30 the following year.

“A handy fact sheet has also been included in the registration renewal mail-out this year providing an important reminder about responsible pet ownership.”

There are several convenient payment methods and options available including online payments, over the phone, via Australia Post or at the closest Customer Contact Office.

Owners are also able to conveniently register their animal online via the MyCouncil function.

Have your details or your pet’s details changed, or do you no longer own your pet?

Pet owners can also notify Council of any changes to their pets’ information online including changes to: pensioner details, desexing, microchipping, registration cancellations and address for your animal.
