A crazed and cutesy cabaret all about our first childhood BFF, Doll, will hit the stage at council’s Lake Kawana Community Centre for one performance only on September 2 at 7.30pm.
Presented by Little Black Dress Creatives as part of the 2017 Horizon Festival Club series, the Babushka gals will nurse dolls, break dolls and become dolls in their typically surprising arrangements of everything from Queen and Guns 'n' Roses to Destiny’s Child and Offenbach.
Prepare to be seduced, comforted, tickled and burped through a dark musical comedy experience, drawing from opera, 80s pop, nursery rhymes and rock’n’roll.
Take a stroll down the cynical side of memory lane and see the world through your Dolly’s eyes.
Many of us yearn to be Barbie, cuddle our Cabbage Patch baby, stick pins in Voodoo and sometimes we behave like baby-dolls ourselves.
Babushka beckons you into the Barbie dream house for a very grown-up play date. Batteries sold separately.
Doll has been developed in partnership with Brisbane Powerhouse and assisted by the Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts’ Fresh Ground artist-in-residence initiative, made possible through Arts Queensland.
Tickets are $29 for adults, $26 per person for groups of six or more and $20 for people aged 26 years and under.
For individual or group bookings, please call Lake Kawana Community Centre on 5413 1400 or visit www.scvenuesandevents.com.au.
Please note this cabaret contains coarse language and adult themes and is recommended for people over the age of 15.
