Currimundi State School has won the Sunshine Coast Ride to School Challenge with more than 150 students riding to and from school during Bike Week.
An initiative of Sunshine Coast Council’s TravelSmart program, the challenge was one of many events held during Bike Week to promote sustainable travel on the Sunshine Coast.
Manager for Integrated Transport Services, Stuart Arden said more than 1000 kids from 11 Sunshine Coast schools took part in the challenge.
"The challenge was developed to get more kids using sustainable transport alternatives such as bikes instead of travelling by motor vehicle," Mr Arden said.
"Sustainable transport use can help ease congestion around our school zones as well as give our kids a healthy dose of exercise.
"This is a good example of council working with the community to increase sustainable transport use and I sincerely thank all the schools who participated."
In addition to the trophy, participating students will next week enjoy a celebratory lunch and two lucky students will receive new bikes.
The Sunshine Coast Ride to School Challenge is one of a series of events coordinated and promoted by the Sunshine Coast Council during Sunshine Coast Bike Week, March 10-18.
TravelSmart has coordinated the Sunshine Coast Bike Week for more than five years.
