From Tuesday, January 16 to Friday, January 19, arts educator Sam Relihan will be in residence at the gallery to facilitate a range of fun and quirky art activities for children.
Each day is dedicated to a different art project inspired by the fascinating work on display in the gallery’s current exhibition Michelle Nikou: a e i o u.
Activities are all free-flowing with two sessions per day - 10am-12.30pm and 1.30-4pm.
Bookings are not required, just come along and join in the fun. All children must be accompanied by a parent/carer. Please check individual activity outline for age suitability.
Upcycled Creatures – Tuesday, January 16
Upcycle and turn something old into something new. Exploring how unconventional materials can be used in unique ways, participants can create sculptural creatures using recycled materials and found objects. Participants will use simple materials such as paper cups, bottle top lids and cardboard and give them a new life using their imagination. Suitable for children four to 12 years.
Table Talk Comics – Wednesday, January 17
What if objects around your house could talk? What if your knife and folk had a conversation as you were trying to have dinner? In this drawing workshop, participants will create their own funny comics and explore the relationships between objects and people. Children will be provided with creative prompts to set the scene and can use template comic sheets to create a fun visual narrative. Suitable for children six years and over.
Quirky Collage – Thursday, January 18
Children can create a collaged character based on the domestic and familiar objects often seen in current exhibition artist Michelle Nikou's work. Arrange quirky objects together such as food, light bulbs, cutlery and neon sign lettering to create an interesting, original image. Suitable for children six-15 years.
Crafty Crowns – Friday, January 19
Using unconventional and recycled materials, participants will make their own fashionable headpiece. From flower crowns to hats, participants will create their own wearable work of art and experiment using materials in different and unusual ways. Suitable for children five years and over.
Kid’s Art Attack – Saturday, January 20, 11am – 1pm
Kids of all ages can get creative at Art Attack. Come along and discover an exciting new art technique. Please remember to wear suitable clothing (old clothes or a protective shirt)…. you could get a little messy during Art Attack. Entry is by gold coin per person. No bookings are required but all children must be accompanied by a parent or carer.
