Cr Rogerson - Kureelpa Hall Committee is calling you

The Kureelpa Hall Committee Annual General Meeting is coming up and now is the time to think about whether you’d like be a part of this important community organisation. The existing committee members have all held their positions for a number of years and all portfolios will become vacant at the AGM. New people with fresh ideas and enthusiasm are welcome to put their hand up to assist with continuing the management of this great community facility. The AGM will be held at the Kureelpa Hall on Tuesday, August 19 at 7:30pm. Please consider offering some valuable time for your Community.

Kenilworth illegal fill

There has been some angst in Kenilworth recently over some illegal dumping of fill on the Showgrounds site at the corner of Charles Street and Maleny Kenilworth Road by the Kenilworth Showground Hall and Recreation. Both myself and Council  Officers have taken these community complaints very seriously.

Engineering and compliance staff from council have assessed the situation and we will ensure that the necessary operational work permits are submitted and take into account potential flooding issues and vegetation concerns The soil was placed at this site to enable a new grassed area to be included on this site for recreational purposes and events. Our flood mapping experts have determined that it won’t heighten the flooding risk in this area.

Budget bonus

Among the really pleasing wins for Division 10 in the new 2014/15 Council budget is the funding we’ve received for important road upgrades and the sealing of dirt and gravel roads.

Last year I tabled a petition recommending a 1.1km section of Delicia Road at Mapleton be sealed from the McLeod Road intersection to the Daymar Road intersection. Linda Garrett Park, Teralba and the Mapleton cemetery all sit along this stretch of Delicia Road and draw significant traffic to justify the sealing of this road surface. So I’m rapt for the Hinterland community that this $1million sealing project has been given the green light.
