Coolum men’s shed

It was terrific to present the Sunshine Coast Council’s cheque for $25,000 to the Coolum Men’s Shed. President John Robertson, who unfortunately has been ill lately, made an extra special effort to be at the presentation and his very welcome presence certainly added to the occasion. The Coolum Men’s Shed is now hoping to commence construction of its new facility early in the new year. I also enjoyed being part of their Christmas function which wrapped up another outstanding year for everyone at the Men’s Shed, one of the important organisations that makes up our local community.

Russell Street meetings

Recently I’ve held several meetings with key stakeholders including the Coolum Lions, SES, the Coolum Christian Family Church and the local firies to discuss council’s draft plans for the Russell Street Coolum Precinct. I’m hoping this project will provide great community outcomes in terms of meeting space and storage requirements. I anticipate a full community consultation with occur in February 2016.

A busy meet and greet

I held my last meet and greet for the year at the Coolum Library. There was plenty of community interest in several key projects including the Coolum Sports Complex upgrade, including the new amenities block; the next stage in the Jack Morgan Park project; and the relocation of the Coolum Community Centre. All of these projects are going to create a terrific community amenity and will touch on every age group in Coolum.

Project updates

Other things happening in Coolum include further development and scheduling of the new whale watching platform and picnic area, more progress in the design and preparation for the extension of the Coolum Library and additional work on the design and route of the Coastal Pathway. There’s definitely a lot to look forward to.

Happy New Year

It’s certainly been a busy time in the Coolum and district with plenty happening to celebrate Christmas and the end of 2015. The New Year promises to be another productive year and I wish everyone a safe and prosperous 2016.
