Sunshine Coast surfing club WindanSea Boardriders are a step closer to having a home base at Currimundi.

Council yesterday (April 20) agreed to an allocation of land and community lease request from the club which hosts one of the country’s longest running surf events, the Ma and Pa Bendall Classic.

The proposed lease is on 590 square metres of Reserve Land, under the control of council as trustee, located at the end of Buderim Street.

Division 3 Cr Peter Cox and Division 2 Cr Tim Dwyer will now work with council staff and the club to finalise the lease area.

Council will then approach the State Government for approval, and if successful, proceed to the design of a clubhouse that sensitively considers its surroundings.

“The WindanSea proposal incorporates a number of other community groups including the Caloundra Malibu Club and the Sunshine Coast Disabled Surfers Association,” Cr Cox said.

“Having a place close to the beach to finally call home is going to be a great benefit for them and help them continue the great work they do for our local community.

“For the Disabled Surfers Association, the prospect of a storage facility to allow them to store their beach access wheel chairs is very welcome.”
