Sunshine Coast Council, the Department of Education and Training North Coast Region and the Salvation Army have partnered to deliver free professional development workshops for people working in the local youth services sector.

Community Portfolio Councillor Jenny McKay said the free Reboot Introductory workshops were in response to specific learning and development needs identified by local youth support workers.

“The workshops booked out quickly and were provided as part of council’s commitment to building strong and resilient youth services on the Sunshine Coast,” Cr McKay said.

“The workshops held on 1 and 15 June were facilitated by Sarah Ralston who has over 10 years’ experience with supporting young people and families to address the impact of childhood adversity and trauma and the reengagement of young people in life and learning.

“The 7-Step Reboot Framework workshops provided the participants with practical tools to develop positive behaviour and build engagement and motivation of the children and young people they work with.

“The workshops integrated the latest multidisciplinary findings from neurology, traumatology, developmental and education psychology, social and positive psychology, social change theory, contemplative science and mindfulness which Sarah specialises in.”

This professional development series was provided at no cost as part of council’s Sunshine Coast Social Strategy commitment to build the capacity and resilience of the region’s community organisations. The Strategy recognises the importance of young people to our social structure and developing partnerships which assist these young people to overcome barriers which lead to their out-migration.
