Cotton Tree Water Park opens with a mega splash!

The Coast’s newest and biggest water park officially opened today at Cotton Tree Aquatic Centre to the delight of crowds of youngsters and their mums and dads.

A joint venture between Swim Fit and the Sunshine Coast Council, the new water park includes numerous interactive features including spray fountains, a water cannon, spiral tunnel and the amazing Mega Soaker.

Division 8 Councillor Debbie Blumel said the joint venture project had brought a new slant to the traditional swimming pool experience for families on the Coast.

“The new water park has been designed with health, safety, water conservation and great fun in mind. The innovative, functional design is sure to amuse and enchant children of all ages,” Cr Blumel said.

Suitable for all age groups, the new water park has replaced the old toddlers’ pool area. It features three separate areas to cater for young, intermediate and older children. Other exciting features include the Tuney Trio (three sets of water soakers), the Geyser, Tidal Wave and Power Spray Activator.

Swim Fit Director Grant Belcher said the launch of the water park would help to keep children entertained this summer while also providing some good, healthy outdoor exercise.

“Swim Fit is focused on encouraging people to enjoy a healthy and active lifestyle. We’re hoping the new water park will provide the extra incentive for children to recognise being active can be a really fun, social and enjoyable experience,” Mr Belcher said.

“Unique to anything else found here on the Coast, the water park is a valuable addition to the variety of water facilities provided by the centre catering for different swimming needs, age groups and interests.”

The water park includes activators and controllers allowing the control of the water features to be placed into the hands of the children. As a result, it is only operational when children are actually playing in the water, effectively reducing water evaporation, power usage and water drainage.

Swim Fit is an aquatic centre management company which currently manage three council owned centres on the Sunshine Coast at Cotton Tree, Coolum and Nambour.
